Im Blumengarten
An exhibition with works by Onno Poiesz and Albert Zwaan

Fallen heroes and urban landscapes meet each other in a field of flowers. The statues by Onno Poiesz and the paintings by Albert Zwaan form an installation in which both artists look for the tension between sweet and sinister, with a twist.

The image that Onno Poiesz tries to make is that of a modern mythical world in which fallen heroes and symbolic or religious subjects play a part. In these sculptures he combines the experience and effects of sampling existing forms with changes in material and context. In this way the sculptures look like plastic and refer to toys and at the same time are transformed into archeological objects.

The paintings of Albert Zwaan made between 2006 and 2008 are an attempt to document the new atmospheric conditions of his recently adopted environment 'the Metropolis of Berlin'. In his work he's connecting the contra dictionary aspects of a vapor free atmosphere and ornamental cloud formations, near and far, formal and organic. The scenery is loaded with a tenseness which could turn into an ominous situation at any time.
